WANNEROO Districts Rugby Union, the only premier rugby club in the northern suburbs, has begun training for the 2010 season.
The Roo Dogs have made the top-grade finals in successive years – only losing in the grand final in 2008 – and is planning for further success this year under head coach Elwee Prinsloo.
The Kingsway-based club has added strength to its playing group and its coaching staff from premier grade through to under-18 and under-20 levels.
Pre-season training takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm and new players and coaches are welcome.
The club will be fielding four senior men’s grades, a women’s side, under-20s and under-18s, as well as a Golden Oldies side, Ye Olde Dogs.
The club has a number of trial games before the April 10 season kick-off.
A number of Western Force Super 14 players are members and will feature in games this year.
Anyone who wishes to join the club can visit the club website www.wanneroorugby.com.au or call Nick Taylor on 0412 257 674.
Meanwhile the club’s touch competition is drawing to a close. The finals will be held at Kingsway on Sunday, February 21.
Organisers will be taking nominations for the following season on that day and anyone interested in watching, playing, refereeing or even joining the club committee is welcome to come and enjoy the afternoon.
