PERTH’S battered cars, victims of March’s hailstorm, will soon be able to fulfil inspection requirements.

Transport Minister Simon O’Brien announced that motor trade association members and RAC Auto Service Centres would be able to carry out the inspections.

Mr O’Brien said the stations had already examined about 13,000 vehicles that, though deemed write-offs, had been  retained by owners.

These owners were required to have their vehicles formally inspected.

Mr O’Brien said the arrangement would help deliver “timely choices” for West Australians.

“This initiative is about ensuring motorists can move on from this storm event and maintain the use of their vehicles. Anything the Government can do to make that easier is of benefit.”

MTA chief executive officer Stephen Moir said the private industry was ready to help and share the load with the Department of Transport.

“We believe this short-term arrangement will help all those affected by the hailstorm and ensure WA motorists get their hail-damaged vehicles back on the roads,” he said.
