THE fresh thinking and business skills of 160 local students have helped six businesses in the City of Wanneroo.
The City’s Business I Lab program, run in conjunction with Edith Cowan University, offered students a chance to apply their knowledge to real-life business situations.
The program, formerly known as the Innovation Lab, began in 2008. It provides local businesses with support in areas such as planning, marketing and website development.
Wanneroo Mayor Jon Kelly said the scheme supported local business while providing hands-on experience for students.
“It’s a win-win initiative that may also benefit the local economy as it advocates skills retention within the region and encourages business growth,” he said.
ECU student Padda Gagandeep Singh said the program had enabled him to work on genuine business scenarios, and had added to his degree and resume.
Businesses hosting students this year were Ozpodcampers, Perth Out & About Guide, Powersports WA, SO2GO, The Renovation Station and Twin Cities FM.
