CRUST Gourmet Pizza Bar may not be a familiar name to many West Australians, but the franchise has opened its first WA store at 502 Hay Street, Subiaco, along the remodelled west end of the street.
Well-known interstate, Crust is designed to change people’s |perceptions of pizza from “fast food” to a gourmet experience that is both healthy and enjoyable.
Owner Raymond Angriawan said the concept differed from established pizza franchises.
“It’s something you couldn’t find in WA – gourmet pizzas with high-quality ingredients being displayed to the customer and delivered to your door,” he said.
Mr Angriawan said the Subiaco shop would likely be the first of a number of planned stores in carefully selected sites around Perth.
“We are actually looking at several sites: Applecross, Nedlands or Claremont, whichever one comes first, Scarborough and Mt Lawley,” he said.
“With this brand, location is very important and we don’t want to be perceived as something we are not.” Open daily for lunch and dinner, Crust also offers starters, salads, desserts and calzones, which are folded nine-inch pizzas favoured as a lunch item but available at all times.
Mr Angriawan said making Crust pizzas was a careful, labour-intensive process.
The pizza is like a canvas and we are like drawing on it with toppings,” he said.
“We don’t just slap the toppings on.”
He said he was encouraged by the healthy business the store had done since it opened on August 6.
